June 4, 2018 CRT Providers, Manufacturers, and Clinicians, CMS has announced it is expanding the Medicare "DME Prior Authorization Requirement" to include 31 power wheelchair codes. The new policy will be effective September 1 and be applied nationwide. For additional information and to see the codes included, click here. This will replace the current "PMD Demonstration" that is operating in 19 states that will expire on August 31. The new codes will be an addition to the current PA requirement for power wheelchair codes K0856 and K0861. As a result, 33 power wheelchair codes will require a Medicare PA prior to billing as of September 1.
